Viorel Hodre was born in Romania.  In 1982 he was granted political asylum in the United States., and spent 20 years in  Connecticut before moving to New Orleans. Trained as a sculptor in Romania, he carves both wood and stone and sculpts in clay.

In 2007 he began to create light sculptures, combining his love of  wood and stone sculpture and of contemporary interior design.
