Viorel Hodre is a fine craftsman making unusual light sculptures for
use in contemporary residential and commercial interiors.
Each lamp is handcrafted, signed and dated. For table and floor
lights he sculpts and polishes bases from Alabama white marble or from
reclaimed centuries-old New Orleans cypress. The lamp stems
are copper with solid brass fittings. Some light sculptures are pendant
lights meant to be installed hanging from the ceiling. Each
shade is unique, created from imported handmade papers stretched over
a wood frame. Some shades feature brilliantly colored papers;
others are pure white rice paper. All of them glow beautifully
when illuminated and cast a soft light, perfect for creating a focal
point in any interior.
Viorel’s light sculptures range in size from around 30 inches up
to 8 feet tall. Hanging lights can be very large, with the advantage
that paper and wood together weigh very little, and so require very little
special installation work. He will work with you to create a special
piece to fit your interior.
